22 May Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Attends Dahon International Distributor Conference
Delyan Dobrev welcomes Dahon to Bulgaria in support of sustainable energy during Dahon’s International Distributor Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria
Sofia, Bulgaria, May 22, 2012 – Dahon, the world leader in folding bicycles, hosted special guest Delyan Dobrev, Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism during its 5th annual international conference (DIDC) last week. Dobrev welcomed Dahon and the exports the company will bring to Bulgaria as it begins production in Plovdiv.
Dahon hosted its annual conference in Sofia to promote the company’s new 2013 product range alongside the establishment of its European headquarters through a strategic partnership with Maxcom, a modern ISO 9001:2008-certified facility that specializes in manufacturing of bicycles. Initial production is set to begin with 40,000 units and is due to reach 100,000 by the end of the year. Dahon projects a 19 million USD (30 Million BGN) contribution to Bulgaria’s export output within the first year with total exports of Dahon bikes from the country rising to 38 million USD (60 million BGN) by 2015. Bulgaria’s total goods exports grew by 2.2% in 2011 totaling 26.06 billion USD.
During the closing ceremony, Dahon presented Dobrev with one of its most popular models alongside a certificate of appreciation for his support and efforts towards the use of sustainable energy in Bulgaria. Dr. David Hon, Dahon founder, and CEO says, “We are excited to have moved our European production to Bulgaria, not just because of its logistical advantages, but also because of its increased focus towards the use of sustainable energy.”
