26 Aug DAHON Doubling Production Capacity with New Factory, and Expanding Distribution
Duarte, CA – World leader in folding bikes, DAHON has announced impressive figures confirming an average rate of 15-20% growth per year over the last five years.
The company is in fact preparing for even greater growth as they expand their product line to include traditional ‘full-sized’ bikes and Ford branded bicycles. DAHON has set a target to up annual sales from 500,000 to 1 million bikes within four years. In order to achieve this, DAHON has confirmed production will be moving to a new location near their current factory in Shenzhen. The new factory is more than twice the size of the current facility with the goal of the move is to expand production capacity and increase the percentage of manufacturing processes carried out in-house. DAHON has previously confirmed their international sales and marketing departments have already relocated to state-of-the-art offices in one of the newest technology parks in the downtown Nanshan District.
China continues to be a strong market for DAHON, where the folding bike leader will be expanding from 30 to 200 distributors during this year and the next. The company is also increasing its retail presence from 400 to 1,000 brand shops. These flagship stores are positioned in key locations and exclusively sell DAHON bikes. The company has spent the last decade building premium brand status and healthy profits in the country.
DAHON Vice President Henry Hon elaborated on the company’s multifaceted growth, “We are already expanding into MTB and children’s bikes. Thanks to the partnership with Ford Motor Company, DAHON will expand into a full line of traditional bikes with its Flatpak technology. Flatpak provides compactness to all traditional bikes while preserving both the look and functionality of each category. It is expected to be a big hit.” In addition, Hon mentioned, “We have also started to market foldable e-bikes. DAHON is bringing its brand of performance-plus-convenience to traditional bicycles.”
The agenda for growth is further evident in the fact that DAHON is slated to have its first Initial Public Offering (IPO) in Taiwan as they are slated to float on the stock exchange in 2016.
