DAHON Unveils New Environmental Program at Eurobike 2013

Friedrichshafen, Germany, August 29, 2013 – DAHON, the world leader in folding bicycles, introduces “Turn a New Leaf” during Eurobike 2013, an environmental initiative that calls upon the public to make an active commitment in changing their mobility habits.

euro bike 2013 dahonThe proactive campaign aims to raise awareness for the environment through a series of supporting initiatives and asks consumers to make a pledge on dahon.com and show their commitment by wearing a “Turn a New Leaf” pledge band – available for pickup at their nearest DAHON partner.

“Turn a New Leaf” will run across international borders through DAHON’s global network of distributors in over 60 markets and will be implemented across a myriad of communication channels. DAHON furthermore looks to partner with environmentally conscious organizations to further pool resources for increased awareness and implementation.

With each pledge, DAHON will register a “Green Pledge Point” towards the user’s country and their specific area. For the areas (city, community, region, etc.) that collect the most “Green Pledge Points”, DAHON will donate a portion of its proceeds to a charity or organization in the area of mobility as a part of the company’s commitment to realize a cleaner and more environmentally-friendly world.

“We want to do our part to help others make a change in the way they get from point A to B, whether that’s helping a community build a better infrastructure for public transportation or providing high quality and affordable bicycles that will last a lifetime,” explains Dr. David T. Hon, CEO, and Founder of Dahon. “Our mission is to make the world a greener place, and we feel that in order to do that, we must first educate the market, and then provide them with the tools to make a change.”

Since the production of the first modern-day folding bicycle in 1982, DAHON has been a leader in the industry and a role model for green mobility. This year, the company looks to reinforce its commitment to reducing carbon footprint while drawing upon its founding philosophy of providing a form of transportation that preserves the environment and keeps people healthy.

“Turn a New Leaf” will be supported by a series of subsequent proactive initiatives as well as a special mobility award in an effort to further support the campaign’s goal of motivating people to make an active commitment towards changing their mobility habits.

During Eurobike, guests are invited to take a pledge on a specially designed section of the company’s website or at the DAHON booth located in Hall A4-308 where they can also pick up their pledge bands.

2014 Green Award

As part of the proactive campaign, DAHON will demonstrate its support by donating 10,000 EUR to an individual, group, company, organization, or even city to help fund a project that will help to reduce carbon emissions and promote a more environmentally friendly mode or concept of transportation.

Award applications will be accepted beginning immediately via DAHON’s official website, www.dahon.com, and will close in June 2014. Applicants will be judged by a panel of experts from DAHON and the winner(s) will be announced at the end of July 2014. The winning submission will be invited to attend Eurobike 2014, the world’s largest trade fair in the cycling industry.
