19 May Folding Bikes and the City
Dahon gets stuck into a busy weekend for cycling in New York
The beginning of the month was all about NYC for Dahon. May 3rd and 4th played host to Bike Expo New York, with nearly 1,000 brands on show and 60,000 plus visitors to Pier 36. The best part was that the event is free and open to the public, making it a fantastic way to spread the cycling bug in the already world-class cycling city. Dahon was there to promote folding bikes as the ultimate, urban transport of course. We also sponsored the New York Bicycling Coalition booth, a statewide advocacy group, and held a raffle for a Speed D7. Pictured is our Ken Fagut, Director of Sales & Marketing North America, hanging at the expo with Streetsblog. Support this excellent cycling news and advocacy group and you could win a Dahon Mu N360. You have until June 1st to donate and be in with a chance.
After a successful couple of days at the expo, a beautiful and chilly Sunday morning saw Ken don his shorts and join the lineup for the 5 Boro Bike Tour (Ken also came equipped with a supply of Dahon socks to dish out to any Dahon riders he happened to meet along the way). Riding the Formula S18, Ken completed the 40-mile ride at 10.29 am in the top 500! To put that into perspective, that is out of over 30k riders – not bad for a folding bike! Ken made it onto the first ferry, the point in the ride where they need to ferry the riders from Staten Island back to Battery Park, and was the first folding bike rider to finish on the day. A great end to a jam-packed couple of days. Were you riding in the 5 Boro? Let us know and join the discussion on Facebook.
