Duarte, California, August 20, 2012 – Dahon, the world leader in folding bicycles, is honored with the prestigious Eurobike Award 2012 for the EEZZ, Dahon‘s newest bike model, in the category of Urban Bikes. The EEZZ features a new technology that allows the bike to fold vertically rather than horizontally and will be honored as a part of the Eurobike Award ceremony on August 29 at 6 p.m. in Friedrichshafen.

Streamlined, compact, reliable, and portable, the EEZZ utilizes concealed folding hinges within a Hydroformed frame, which streamlines its structural design. Meanwhile, innovative vertical folding technologies–with hinges placed at the top of the frame instead of its side–simplify and quicken the folding process. With the aid of twin pull rod systems on the seat post, the seat height extends and contracts automatically, eliminating the time needed for individual adjustment. Weighing only 9kg, the 16” EEZZ can be pulled from the trunk of a car or an apartment closet and easily assembled into a reliable means of bi-model transportation in only a matter of seconds.

The Eurobike Award’s jury of six bike experts recognized the EEZZ’s exceptional innovation and outstanding quality by honoring it with the esteemed Eurobike award. As a part of the award, the EEZZ will be showcased in the Foyer East of the Eurobike trade fair. This year, the competition received 439 entries with 84 receiving recognition.  Eight of the 84 winners will be chosen to receive the 2012 Eurobike Gold Award, the highest design honor for the trade show.

The competition is hosted by Messe Friedrichshafen and organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH in Hannover. The entries were judged based on the following criteria: Aerodynamics, efficiency, ergonomics, functionality, utility, design quality, weight, degree of innovation, comfort, loading, brand value/branding, choice of materials, service, safety, stability, environmental compatibility and workmanship
